Carrie and my first child, Reese, was born in Saskatoon a month too early and at only 3 pounds 3 ounces. The nurses let me sleep on the chair in Carrie’s hospital room and sometimes I’d sneak up in her bed. We waited there a week for our new baby. The night Reese was born I had a dream in which I wrote the chorus to this song. As soon as I woke up I added the verses (because, of course, I had brought my guitar to the birth of my son).
